The word meme (pronounce ‘meem’) was coined by the British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene (1976). Wikipedia says a meme is ‘an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture’. An internet meme spreads via the internet (Facebook, Twitter, blog reposts, e-mails forwarded, web sites). So as I looked up ‘horses and bayonet’ memes from tonight’s third Presidential debate already circulating on the internet, I stumbled across the longcat meme. I think it is very funny.
